Goals, Motivation & Planning

For goal setting, time management and planning I have found Mark Joyners Simpleology to be a life changing. It helped identify my ultimate life goals and gave me a program to work through that ensured every day was taking me closer to my dream. I can not recommend it highly enough. And you know what – its free! Take a few moments and check it out

I have separated my goals into 3 main areas. It is important to realize that over time you goals will change. New experiences, different stages of your life and belief in what is really possible if you put you mind to it. So whilst these goals represent my ultimate life now as I achieve them and as my life changes others may replace them. The important think for me is that the end reward more than justifies all the effort applied to get there.

1/ Ultimate Life Goals

These are the things that I would like to see my self doing if I had absolutely no constraints. They are things that I would choose to do on a daily basis. They are things that are real and that if I stop and think for a minute I can visualize my family and I doing day in day out. In simple terms it is a vision of the best possible life I can imagine.

The only reason I am not doing right now are my constraints – Time & Money. Time is the one that is finite we all have the same no of hours in a day. We can’t buy any more time but we can pay people to do things for us that will in turn free up time for us do the things we really want to do.

My Ultimate Life goals

Financial independence – No money worries

To be able to spend as much time as I want traveling to any part of the world I want with my family.

Own my own 50 ft Catamaran and cruise the world (mainly the warmer regions).

Time to pursue my other interests like – Horse Riding

Scuba Diving

Kite Surfing

Restoring my 45 ft timber fishing trawler.

Quite simply I want to be able to do all of these things when ever I want and I want to be able to do them with my family.

2/ Business Goals

By identifying my ultimate life goals I can then set my business goals. In simple terms for me the business is a means to the end. It will provide me with the money that I need to live my Ultimate life.

My vision for my ultimate life becomes the driving force that motivates me to keep doing the things that I know will make me successful on a daily basis. All around me I have things that remind me of and help me visualise my ultimate life. When I get the opportunity I try to involve myself in activities that make up my vision of an ultimate life. This just reinforces the feeling of how good would this be if I was doing it everyday instead of very occasionally. So for me I make sure I go scuba diving or horse riding or sailing when I can. And if I haven’t done it for a while I put it in my weekly plan and make sure it is a priority.

It keeps me fresh and really reinforces the reason I am working so hard.

My Business Goals

Create an online business that will provide an ongoing secure income that will allow me to live my ultimate life.

Over time reduce the amount of work required by me.

Be able to leave it for extended periods with little to no maintenance.

Be able to run it from anywhere in the world that I can get internet connection.

3/ Spiritual Goals

These are the things that I want to do to try to put a bit back into this wonderful world we live in. In some ways these can be quite personal and they can sometimes be a bit scary to commit to paper. Not sure why, maybe its just me, or maybe it is that for me they are not that well defined yet.

My Spiritual Goals

Rescue horses that would otherwise be sent to the knackery for dog food or that are being mistreated. Our ultimate aim would be to re train & re  home them or just give them a place to see out there days. This takes a lot of time and money. We do it on a small scale now & to date we have rescued 7 horses that were otherwise heading for a very cruel death.

Support certain conservation organisations both financially and physically.

To teach motivate and mentor others in their pursuit of  their ultimate life.

I have identified my ultimate life goal as owning the 50 ft catamaran and cruising the world as my priority. I may not be able to spend 6 months of every year doing it to start of I might have to settle for 2 months a year. When my wife Melanie and I were running a charter cat in the caribbean we saw many young families enjoying this life style. My family will be at a perfect age to do this in 3 to five years, so I am going to make that my time frame for this part of my ultimate life goals.

I think I will need an online income of between 10 & 15K per month to achieve this. Watch out for my next Goals and Motivation post for my plan for bringing this dream to reality

Cheers
